INTRODUCTIONS
FULL NAME: Severus Tobias Snape
NICKNAMES: Sev (but only by Lily) Snivelus (but only used for ridicule)
AGE: 17
ALLEGIANCE: Death Eater (for now)
PROFESSION OR YEAR GROUP: 7th
SKIN DEEP
DESIRED PB: Daniel Vosovic
HEIGHT: 6 feet 2 inches
KEY FEATURES: large nose, sallow skin, lank dark hair, thin, and onyx eyes
DESCRIPTION: Severus is far from the most appealing person in the world. He had never seen anything the least bit appealing in his appearance at all. This idea had just been solidified as Severus got older. The other children he ran into would often laugh and jeer at him his appearance and ragged cloths specifically. The more he was mocked for the way he looked the less he seemed to care about it.
For a short time Severus was convinced that he wouldn’t be as ridiculed for his odd appearance at Hogwarts, but that hope didn’t last long. If anything his look became even more a source for people to make fun of him at school. His lack of physical appeal leads Severus to improve his brain.
As he concentrated on improving his brain his physical appearance fell into a state of complete disrepair. He let his hair get even greasier and when his nose broke he didn’t bother to reset it properly. He got thinner and paler due to poor diet since he started skipping meals to spend more time in the library researching.
By seventh year Severus looked like a disaster, but the insults about it rolled off his back and most people knew enough of his magical prowess not to make such comments where he could hear them. The Marauders still mocked him for his appearance among other things, but he knew no matter how powerful he was that wouldn’t change. The only thing about his appearance that Snape cared about was Lily’s opinion of it but sine she hadn’t talked to him in about a year and a half he had no idea what she thought of his deteriorating physical state.
PERSONALITY
LIKES: Lily, magic, his mother, kidney pie, dark magic, knowledge, the library
DISLIKES: The Marauders, his father, being half blood, spinach, discrimination, himself, self righteous people
STRENGTHS: potions, olcomence, legimens, subtlety, snarky comments, and stealth
WEAKNESSES: temper, hate, holds a grudge for a long time, self-importance/entitlement, power, and desire to make an impression
BOGGART: Lily’s death (currently)
PATRONUS: Eagle (for now)/first time he talked to Lily on the playground near their home.
DESCRIPTION: Severus has never had a particularly savory personality towards most people. As a child no other kids really bothered to learn enough about his personality. His best friend Lily Evans is the only person he is even remotely nice to. He mostly ignores the other students unless they taunt him making it impossible to ignore them. For the first couple of years at Hogwarts he was more than happy to just muddle through letting himself drift into the shadows to avoid having to be with other people.
As time went on some of the more clever students noticed that Severus had a biting wit and was very cunning which is probably why he got more notice. The only students to notice this were his housemates though. He still spent most of his time with Lily. She was the only person he ever let see the softer side he worked so hard to hide from everyone else. He hid it because his father told him that showing his feeling would make him appear weak.
The other Slytherins started to approach him but he only shot acid remarks at them and sneered if they got too close. It was nearly impossible for Severus to make friends. His personality didn’t really attract people to be his friends anyway. As the year went on and he got ridiculed and mocked more and more his mood turned sour even towards Lily.
After fifth year Severus wasn’t able to stay as bitter towards his year mates as he had been. He could no longer spend his time with Lily so he attracted people to him with his wit and skill for dark magic. His personality just continued to get worse by the minute as the softer side of him slowly died from lack of use. He is now a mean bitter boy with little hope of redemption.
HISTORY
FATHER: Tobias Snape
MOTHER: Eileen Prince Snape
BROTHER(S): none
SISTER(S): none
OTHER: none
BLOOD STATUS: half-blood
HOMETOWN: Manchester, England near where Lily grew up.
CURRENT RESIDENCE: Hogwarts as often as possible; would stay over the summer if Dumbeldore would allow it.
BIOGRAPHY: Severus grew up very lonely. He didn’t spend time with any children when he was young. In the beginning his parents got along and seemed to love each other, but before long his father started to hate his mother and anything connected to her him included. His father particularly hated magic. To keep his magical outbursts from his father due to anger he started to spend all the time he could away from the house. He wanted to be with his mother but he couldn’t stand to be around his father.
He was on one of his increasingly frequent escapes from his house when he first saw Lily. He watched her for quite some time before he approached her. He and lily became fast friends and his mood and life was much brighter with her in it. His time with Lily was spent telling her all the things that his mother had told him about the magical world. Their friendship only grew when they both got letters to attend Hogwarts when they were ten.
For their first five years of Hogwarts Lily and Severus were as thick as thieves. It didn’t help that he was sorted into Slytherin and she was sorted into Gryffindor, but they didn’t let it ruin or even affect their friendship. They would walk together through unused parts of the castle and sit for hours in the library working on class work or just reading to each other. To Severus life couldn’t get any better than the hours he got to spend with Lily. It was just about the only good thing about his first five years of Hogwarts though. He was ridiculed by his own housemates and mocked by the Marauders. The time with Lily seemed to wipe it all away though.
AT the end of fifth year everything changed for Severus. Due to a particularly cruel bout of torture from the so-called Marauders he called Lily a mudblood. His housemates used the word all the time, but Snape had promised himself years ago that he never would. He had broken that promise to himself. It was the Marauders fault though. He tried to apologize to Lily later but the damage was already done and it seemed irreparable now.
Without Lily Severus needed to find other people to spend his time with. He fell into a bad crowd fairly quickly. They were impressed by his knowledge of dark magic and impress with his desire to reform himself as they said after his shameful association with that mudblood. He cringed every time they said it, but they never noticed. Now Severus was part of his own group. The people he hung out with had a tendency to bully the younger students, but when he was younger he had been bullied so it was only fair right? That was his justification at least. He didn’t take the same glee in it that the others did though.
In his sixth year another event uncured to change Severus’s life. He knew there was something odd about how the Marauders always disappeared once a month and he had been looking for the reason for years now. He wanted to bust them just once for all the terrible things they put him through. He finally got his chance when he heard Black talking about the knot on the whomping willow and the shrieking shack. He slipped into the tunnel that night and was almost mauled by a werewolf which it turned out was Remus Lupin. James Potter had saved his life. He was sworn to secrecy, by Dumbeldore not to tell everyone about Remus. The thing that really pissed Severus off about the whole thing was that he now owed James Potter his life and that was a serious debt.
Now as a seventh year things aren’t looking better for Severus. He plans to pursue (defense against the) dark arts and potions and gain his mastery in these subjects possibly becoming a teacher since he heard talk about a few teachers possibly retiring in the near future. Things have also gotten worse at home. His father became more abusive. His mother is suffering and has deteriorated. His father Tobias took her wand away and he can’t help her. This fueled his growing hatred of muggles. How could his father do such a thing to his mother. She was a shell of her former self and it was that man’s fault.
He hated James even more since he now is not only his tormentor his savoir but also is actually getting some attention from his Lily. The only saving grace was that it wasn’t necessarily good attention that he was getting from her. James was fallowing her around like a puppy though. This was nothing knew, but now she actually found some of his antics entertaining and once that started it was only a matter of time till she agreed to go out with the git.
As for his other plans for the future they weren’t very clear. Over the summer Lucius his old school friend had told him about a man Lord Voldemort. He was going to cleanse wizard kind and save the world. It didn’t sound like such a bad idea and the man did have power. If there was one thing Severus couldn’t resist it was power and it seemed that he was being scouted to join the man’s ranks. Little is Severus aware that the choices he makes in this his final year will change his life forever.
SAMPLE POST: Severus hadn’t really slept. He never slept much anymore. He spent the entire night watching the dark hanging on his bed waft in the nearly imperceptible wind. The drafts in the dungeon got very cold, but he was used to it after five full years. He had watched as a particularly hard gust had made the hanging dance. As he watched the dark green flashed to red. Instead of the dark hanging he saw a cascade of brilliant red hair flying in the wind laughing in the snow and those green eyes brimmed with tears of mirth at some secret joke they shared. That image was so familiar to him but so sad. He wasn’t sure if he would ever be able to see Lily Evans like that again. They had barely talked since that fateful day and none of there exchanges had gotten anywhere near even a chuckle making tears of mirth miles away.
He blinked away the angry tears that were prickling at the backs of his eyes. He hadn’t cried since his mother died and he wasn’t about to start now. When he blinked the dancing vibrant image of Lily that had danced above him had disappeared. He wasn’t sure if he was glad it was gone or angry since he may never see it again. He supposed that truthfully he was both angry and glad. Seeing her brought back too many memories that hurt since they were lost and seeing things that he could never have would make anyone angry. School had been so hard seeing her everyday. Now that they were in their sixth year he saw her in almost every class since they had both gotten high enough scores to continue in all the same classes. It was hard to see her, but on the other hand at least he didn’t have as many classes with Potter and Black. Lupin had made the grades to continue in most of the same classes like he and Lily had, but he didn’t mind Lupin when Potter and Black weren’t around he wasn’t all that bad even if he was a Gryffindor but then Lily was a Gryffindor as well.
Severus sat up in bed and punched his pillows a couple of times. It didn’t help any to make him feel better but then nothing had. He had alienated himself from everyone since the incident. He wasn’t hanging out with his Slytherin friends anymore and he didn’t really have any other friends. He spent most of his summer locked in his room trying to brew a batch of Felix Felicis or as it was more commonly known, liquid luck. He hadn’t had any luck, no pun intended, brewing the potion. It seemed that the incredibly complex potion was beyond even his skill at this point. He knew he would be able to master it some day, but as of yet all attempts had failed. He had been sure that if he could brew it he would be able to find a way to completely mend his friendship with Lily. He hadn’t been able to figure out any way to mend it without the potion though. At first he had begged on his hands and knees for her to forgive him explained how he hadn’t meant it and how he would never do it again to her or anyone else, but she seemed relentless. He wasn’t sure if she would ever forgive him even if he were able to brew that potion he wasn’t sure even that would be enough to fix it. She would probably hate him for using something like that to get her back anyway. She didn’t need to know that was the reason she forgave him though.
It was still a truly un-godly hour of the morning when Severus rose for the day. He would never get up this early if he weren’t already awake. It wasn’t even six yet. Was he even allowed to be out of his dormitory this early? What did it matter nothing seemed to matter. He had been living like a zombie for nearly six months so it didn’t matter. It wasn’t like he had anything better to do with his time than serve a detention so why bother trying to keep out of trouble. Maybe he could go to one of the unused potions classrooms and try brewing Felix Felicis again. That would take too long. He would miss breakfast and the trip to Hogsmeade. He didn’t care much about the trip to Hogsmeade though he could use some chocolate to cheer him up, but since he hadn’t eaten dinner last night his stomach protested at the idea of another skipped meal. He tried to avoid the great hall at normal meal times because of her, but it didn’t help much most of the time.
Severus grabbed his robes and a towel and made his way to the bathroom. He took a quick shower scrubbing his entire body and let the scalding water drive away any thought of his very own red haired siren. It didn’t help very much, but it worked for a little while. Once he had gotten out of the shower and dressed in the normal black robed he looked in the mirror to exam himself. He didn’t look at himself in the mirror often because he knew that the face that greeted him wouldn’t be particularly pleasant. His lank black hair fell in wet clumps down to his shoulders. His nose didn’t fit his face. His mother had always said he would grow into it but it hadn’t happened yet. His teeth were very cooked and his skin was a pale as parchment. He scoffed at his reflection. He shook his head know that as always this was as good as it would ever get. If these were the best years of his life he cowered away from the thought of what awaited him in later years. With a last resigned sigh he left the bathroom to climb up the stairs to the great hall. Maybe if he ate early he wouldn’t have to see her.
It seemed that he was in luck for the most part since it was a good long while before he caught sight of the familiar trail of long red hair. He knew it the moment she entered the room. He didn’t want to see her, but his body was so sensitized to her presence that he could never miss her entering or leaving a room. He felt himself stiffen instantly. He was getting up to leave when the mail arrived. He looked up a bit bemused. He was all together surprised when a familiar owl landed on his recently vacated seat and looked up at him holding a note. With a resigned sigh her grabbed the note handed the owl the toast still left on his plate and walked out of the hall before reading the note.
He made his way back to the Slytherin dormitories. He would just sit up in his dorm and work on homework she would be at Hogsmeade and he didn’t want chocolate that much. He flopped on his bed wondering if he would be able to sleep now after eating. He had almost forgotten about the note. He rolled over hearing the parchment crinkle in his pocket he pulled out the note. He unfolded it and immediately recognized the handwriting. He had spent so much time in the library studying with her watching as her hands flowed over the paper forming words that he would always know if she written something. He read the note. Scrivenshaft's Quill Shop, he had been sure he didn’t want to go to Hogsmeade. Potter and Black were bound to be there. She would be waiting for him though? Why? Why would she want to see him anyway she had made it perfectly clear that she didn’t think much of him. She had made it clear that he wouldn’t be able to mend their friendship. Could he refuse her though? Did he have the will power to just sit here in his dormitory and leave her waiting? He knew the answer before the question even occurred to him. He would never be able to refuel Lily Evans anything. She was the only one who would ask anything of him and he couldn’t say no. He hated that he couldn’t say no to her but it was an undeniable truth.
He grabbed his heavy cloak, which did little to fend off the chill of October, but it was better than nothing. He waited for most of the other students to leave before making his own way into the town. He didn’t want to run into anyone other than Lily and he knew if he went with the rest of the students he would undoubtedly be humiliated and ridiculed before he even made it to the town and turn back without meeting her. He didn’t want to disappoint her again he had already done that enough recently. It was true that a tiny vindictive voice in his mind said it would serve her right if you didn’t show up, but that voice never won any arguments when Lily was concerned. He hated that voice he was sure it was the one that had called Lily a mudblood anyway. Even in his head the word hurt when applied to her.
He was late. He knew he would be late. He was willing to be late to avoid the frightful foursome as he had started to call them. It was easier than listing all four names and he thought the term the marauders glorified them. He would never do anything that made them look the least bit good. He had been trying to come up with an even worse name for them but so far he hadn’t had any more luck with that than with his little potions project. He slipped between the shadows on his way to the town. He liked the shadows he felt at home there. People didn’t make fun of you if they didn’t see you. His heart started hammering in his chest and his breath started to come quicker as he got closer to the quill shop. He had never been this nervous about seeing her. They were friends or at least they had been. He tried to comb his hair and make himself at least a bit more presentable before remembered his reflection. There was no way to improve himself enough for her in the mere moments he had before he reached the shop. He put his hands in his pockets. He saw that vibrant red hair as he approached. He stood in front of her rocking back and forth on his feet a bit. “Hey.” There was nothing else for him to say. She had asked to see him and he had already humiliated himself begging for her forgiveness so he would take the route of few words and let her say whatever she had to say. He didn’t trust his mouth since the incident anyway.
He wanted to say no. He wanted to be as cruel to her as she had been to him. He wanted to tell her to forget it and to leave him alone. It would have been kinder than what she had done to him after all. He would at least be giving her and answer. When he had been the one begging for forgiveness she hadn’t even given him and answer she had just acted like he wasn’t there without any kind of closer it had been eating away at him all summer not to mention the month or so they had been back at school. He didn’t want to hear her apologies or see those tears gathering in her eyes. He would crack. He knew it before she was even done asking him to forgive her. How could he be so weak? He was an amazingly strong and smart wizard, but her in front of him and all his resolve would crumble. He hated her for making him weak but all the same he couldn’t change it he still couldn’t say no to her and he knew it would always be this way. She would ask and he would do whatever he could to fulfill her request. Did she have any idea how hard it was to have no will power to refuse her? She could ask him to jump off a cliff and he would do it to appease her. She would be the death of him, but he craved her more than he feared what she could make him do.
He stood in the cold for longer than he had thought to just watching her. That little malicious part inside of him was gleeful to see her on her knees in front of him. He had felt so humiliated in the same position a few months ago that that vindictive part of him had cheered to see her the same way. The rest of his brain that was still her friend that loved her like a sister and a best friend and even a crush scolded him for that little tingle of joy. He shouldn’t be the least bit happy about this. He was a Slytherin and there would always be that malevolent bit of him though that would want to get back at people who mistreated him. Lily had mistreated him, but on the other hand he knew that in her case at least he had thoroughly deserved what she gave him.
He finally felt his heart contract hard. She had called him Sev. She was on her knees asking him to forgive her when she hadn’t done anything wrong. She was admitting what he had been thinking himself only moments before and asking that he be the bigger person and absolve her or her misdeeds. He felt that he was in no position to condemn anyone for mistakes he had made too many of his own and was sure to make more in the future. He had her forgiveness though so the most he could do was give her his in return.
He still didn’t trust his voice. He removed his cloak and draped it over her shoulders. She was cold he could tell. He was used to the cold having spent so much time in the dungeons at the castle. She wasn’t sued to it and it was wearing on her. The big cloak engulfed her. It reminded him of the way his old coat used to swallow him up when they were kids. A smile quirked the corners of his mouth at the memory. He wiped the tear off of her cheek. “Come on Evans you must be frozen out here.” He helped her up to her feet. He held her elbow so she could rise without too much difficulty. He opened to door to the shop for her. He didn’t need anything inside, but she might and either way it was the closest place and she should warm up some. Gryffindor were always so susceptible to the cold.
He let the door close behind him and the warmth of the store enveloped them like a welcoming hug. He leaned against the wall trying to look calmer than he felt. He felt tense and nervous. He didn’t know why he still felt this way. She had just asked fro his forgiveness and he had given it so why did he still feel like this. After a moment he took her into a quick hug partially cause she still looked cold. He felt how much thinner she was. She felt almost frail. He stepped back and looked at her. He hadn’t noticed before but she had lost weight and didn’t look at all well. “You Evans haven’t been taking care of my friend.” He looked at her scolding, but there was a hint of laughter in his comment. He hoped that she was still able to tell when he was joking. He always delivered jokes with a deadpan voice and face, which made most people think he was being serious but she had always been able to tell. He hoped that this was still true. If it wasn’t she would be hurt by his comment he was sure. He saw it all over again. The relationship advise of Severus Tobias Snape; open mouth and insert foot, repeat as needed. The sure fire way to ruin every relationship you might ever have weather it be platonic or romantic.
(It doesn’t work for this RP of course, but it is Sev.)
OC: Next up is Marlene so if you could reserve her now it would be much appreciated. On a side note I usually end up writing Severus in first person I don’t know why but he just comes out better that way. I think it is because my Sev has a lot of internal monologue going on. I also want to explain why this took so long a lot of real life stuff all came crashing down at once I will be more consistent with posting now though promise.
